Each year we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families. We work to influence individuals, whanau, organisations and communities to improve and sustain their mental health and reach their full potential. Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. These events are either promoted by recognized health organizations or recognized in the professional health community. Mental Health Month gives us an opportunity to raise awareness about mental health and wellbeing through a broad campaign and community events. Mental Health Month 2014 was designed to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and its preventative factors and benefits for mind and body and to build a broad public recognition around the role of mental health to overall health.
