Steal is the ability on a level 1 Steal Materia.As the Materia levels up Steal is replaced by Mug.The Steal command steals an item from the enemy, whereas Mug inflicts damage as well. There will likely be some bonus in the second Remake for playing the first game, but don't expect your save data to carry over at all.
